BMX enthusiasts from as young as five years old will soon be barrelling around the new Te Aroha track, thanks to a $40,000 grant from Grassroots Trust.
About Te Aroha BMX Club
The Te Aroha BMX Club is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers who are committed to providing local BMX riders with a safe and exciting facility where they can pursue their chosen sport. Supported by BMXNZ, Club members have spent countless hours fundraising, designing and project managing the refurbishment of their BMX track in the small rural Waikato town, bringing opening day ever closer.
What the grant went towards
The grant of $40,000 from Grassroots Trust has enabled the Club to progress multiple stages of their track refurbishment including walkways, retaining walls and fencing, and a 3.5m concrete start ramp. Several other small to medium projects that will help bring the track and its surroundings to a safe and tidy state – ready for opening to the public – are also underway, have been made possible by the grant.
What this meant for the organisation and its members
For a small rural town such as Te Aroha, a facility such as the BMX Club not only serves as a great resource for the riders themselves, but also provides a focus for the community, as families and supporters come together to enjoy the spectacle that is BMX riding. The community benefit extends beyond the town too, with riders from nearby towns such as Morrinsville and Matamata also welcome to join the club and use the facilities
