Te Kura o Papatuanuku Wairarapa Earth School Charitable Trust’s core focus is education for sustainability. Our  long term goal is to develop a centre for sustainability where science and technology come to life in the garden classroom.  This learning hub will be for people of all ages supporting the wider Wairarapa community towards sustainability and science literacy.

Earth School has four main objectives:

  1. To empower students to take informed action for a sustainable future.
  2. To build a sustainable and resilient Wairarapa community.
  3. To use project-based outdoor learning to teach STEAMM subjects (Science, Technology, Art, Maths and Mātauranga Māori).
  4. Provide pupils with access to healthy, fresh kai and the skills to grow, cook and preserve their own fruit and vegetables.

Te Kura o Papatuanuku, Wairarapa Earth School was grateful to receive funding from Trust House Foundation to deliver the Wairarapa Science and Sustainability Project.  This project will run throughout term two - four engaging 700+  Wairarapa school students. Our hands on, fun science lessons teach topics such as  ‘The Science of Hot and Happy Compost’ and ‘Acid or Alkali Adventures’. This project will also engage students to work with local mentors on specific challenges such as developing scientific garden interpretation, orchard design and the design of an off-grid shipping container.
