Mobility Assistance Dogs increase independence

Mobility Dogs specially train dogs to help disabled New Zealanders with their individual, unique needs. Through practical support, companionship and unconditional love, these dogs truly transform the lives of their partners, who enjoy greater independence and quality of life. The dogs also help build stronger communities. Mobility dogs are trained to offer practical support, companionship and security. They transform the lives of people living with disabilities. The Lion Foundation has been providing support for Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust since 2011. The last grant, for operating costs, was $40,000.

“The impact of the onset of a disability, is dramatic, and it’s hard for most of us to visualise ourselves being in this position. Our dogs are trained to be a life-long partner to someone living with a disability. This is a unique and often once in a lifetime partnership. It can increase independence, self-confidence, self-image, mental health, relationships with family, friends as well as increasing connections to their community.  It is the support of the Lion Foundation which goes a long way to ensure we are able to meet this vital community need. With my sincere thanks and appreciation.”   - Jody Wilson General Manager
