Oars Away for Wellington Girls

15/07/2018

Wellington Girls’ College rowers were able to participate in the biggest regatta of the year thanks to funding from One Foundation.

About Wellington Girls’ College

Wellington Girls’ College prepares young women to go out into the world as independent thinkers with respect for themselves and others, the confidence to accept and respond to challenges, and an enduring passion for learning.

As rowers, the girls must learn to be well-organised and how to work with different personality types in stressful situations to achieve results. These skills are carried over into their everyday lives and will benefit them and their current and future employers.

What the funding went towards

The One Foundation funding enabled members of the Wellington Girls’ College Rowing Club to travel to and participate in the Maadi Rowing Cup in Twizel. The rowers enjoyed considerable success, reaching ten A finals, seven B finals, one C final and winning medals in four events.”

What this meant for the organisation

The One Foundation grants made it easier for the Wellington Girls’ College rowers to participate in the Maadi Rowing Cup by making it more affordable for parents and ensuring that the girls were able to concentrate on winning races, rather than fundraising.
