The Wairarapa Dragon Boat Club was founded in 2009 to encourage breast cancer survivors to participate in an international movement inspired by the research of Canadian sports medicine specialist Dr.Don McKenzie. He proved that hard repetitive physical exercise reduced or eliminated lymphedema.
Before long several family and friends wished to join the Club and now an open membership allows everyone to benefit from fitness, wellbeing, camaraderie, competition, social interaction and teamwork.
The Trust House Foundation has supported the Club over many years since a 2010 grant enabled the club to purchase a new international standard dragon boat.
