Grassroots Trust funding for Mount Maunganui Skatepark

When it comes to external funding, Tauranga City Council’s Destination Skatepark at Mount Maunganui has been a real collaborative effort.

The funding received has allowed for the development of two additional zones, which are specifically designed for developing basic and intermediate roller skills. This has made the skatepark more inclusive and accessible, thus creating healthier communities and enhancing the wellbeing of our rangatahi.

Grassroots Trust provided funding of $250,000.00 toward the construction of a skate park (zones three and four) in Mount Maunganui. With this funding Destination Skate Park enhances the communities physical, social and mental wellbeing. Along with

creating a fun, unstructured, affordable activity that promotes being active and creative in suitable outdoor environments.

Anne Blakeway, Manager: City Partnerships, Tauranga City Council said, “Partnership is the ethos of how we work with our funders. We value the collaborative nature of our relationship with Grassroots Trust. We have also valued the guidance from Martin and his Board. The funding received for the Destination Skatepark project in Mount Maunganui has elevated the community facility to a national level. We look forward to many more years of partnership with Grassroots Trust.”
